Nanya Thompson

Nanya Yoshiko Morinaga Thompson, born in Jackson, Mississippi and raised in Austin, Texas, is a 2006 graduate of the University of San Diego School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Studies from The George Washington University in Washington D.C. Since graduating from law school, she has practiced exclusively in the area of immigration law. Her practice focuses on bond and detention matters, deportation defense, particularly against lawful permanent residents facing deportation for criminal offenses, naturalization, family-based immigration, and business and investor visas. She has represented people from all over the world.

Nanya has been a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) since 2007 and is an active member of several committees of the local AILA chapter based in San Diego, California. Prior to becoming an attorney, Nanya worked as an Assistant Language Teacher of the Japan-Exchange and Teaching Program in Mie Prefecture, Japan.

Nanya is very dedicated to fighting for immigrant rights as her maternal grandfather was held in a Japanese internment camp during World War II. Due to her family’s immigrant experiences, Nanya is passionate about fighting to protect immigrants’ constitutional rights and she zealously defends all of her clients.
